This is a viable and indeed very nice navigation solution. Update: After a few weeks of driving with this system on familiar and unfamiliar roads alike, I am very happy with the performance, accuracy and usability. The iPhone 4's GPS/Compass and Accelerometer give a very good read on your location. TomTom used to suffer from inferior maps, but I think their data is much improved now. Here is the car mount I use. It acts as a handsfree phone, charger and audio interface to your car stereo all in one. My car has a line in audio input to the stereo system. I've had better call quality with this than bluetooth devices. amzn.to There is also an FM transmitter model, but really those things never work well unless you live in a rural area with few FM stations.
